Understanding Recommendations
What They Are
Preventive health recommendations are evidence-based guidelines that tell you which screenings, counseling and vaccinations you need at each stage of your life. Think of them as your personal health checklist, carefully chosen by medical experts based on extensive research.
Why They Matter
Many serious conditions develop slowly and can be prevented or better managed when detected early. Some services depend on your age and others on your risk factors, so following the recommendations helps you take control of your health.
Each recommendation comes with clear scientific evidence showing it can help prevent diseases or detect them early when treatment is most effective.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which routine screenings do I need for my age?
It depends on your age, gender and health. For example, blood pressure screening is recommended for all adults, diabetes screening every 3 years from age 35, colorectal cancer screening from 45 to 75, and breast cancer screening for women aged 40 to 69. Which vaccines do adults need?
The seasonal flu vaccine every year for all adults, a tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (Tdap) dose every 10 years, the shingles vaccine from age 50, and the pneumococcal vaccine from 65, or earlier with risk factors. Others, such as hepatitis B, MMR and chickenpox, are recommended for adults with no previous vaccination or evidence of immunity.
Does health insurance cover these services?
Most recommended services are covered under the Basic Health Insurance Policy, which sets the minimum coverage in Saudi Arabia. Smoking cessation counseling and fall assessment counseling may not be covered. Each service page shows its coverage.
